John Taibi Railroad Historic Talk“When the Railroads went to the Beach”– This is a story about the wonderful time in Central New York when people travelled to Sylvan Beach by riding the trains of the Ontario & Western and Lehigh Valley railroads. This was during the heyday years of the Beach existence, when the big picnics were held there, and when folks spent their few vacation time at the Beach where they knew they could rest, relax, and have a lot of fun. And, it was the O&W railroad that made it all possible. It built its tracks right to the shore of Oneida Lake; it even gave the community its name – SYLVAN BEACH. We’ll ride the O&W from Oneida Castle to the Beach, and the LV from Canastota to the eastern shore of the lake. We’ll explore what folks did when they got there, and have a good time just as they once did. These days are long gone, but we’ll remember them this evening on Friday October 20 at 6:00pm.
