Petition Signing Policy

The Library Board of Trustees believes that library patrons have the right to use library materials and services without being disturbed or impeded by other library users; that library patrons and employees have the right to an environment that is secure and comfortable; and that library patrons and employees have a right to materials and facilities that are available and in good condition.

Therefore, taking surveys (not provided by the Library) or public opinion polls or asking patrons to sign petitions are prohibited on library property (i.e.-the building and grounds.)  The only exceptions are activities undertaken by the library for library-related purposes by the Library Manager.

The Library understands and accepts that it cannot stop anyone from petitioning on the village sidewalks and/or street in front of the building.

Failure to follow and abide by this policy may result in disciplinary actions by Library Staff or the Library Manager, as stated in the Library Rules of Conduct.

Amended March 19, 2015
