December 2022 Events

Giving Tree Fundraiser– Shop for the library this holiday season from now through Saturday January 14, 2023!  We have several items the library needs! It’s EASY!  Grab a Christmas tag off our giving tree of something you would like to donate to the library.  Buy it, donate it, whatever it says and bring the tag and the item in as soon as you can!  We would like all donations turned in by January 31, 2023.

Take-n-Make December Craft(s)– Attention Kids! CLICK HERE to see what we are making this month! Open to ages 2-12; while supplies last!

Letters to Santa!- It’s Christmastime and Santa wants to hear from you! Stop in to the library December 1 through December 18 and write your letter to Santa with all your Christmas wishes on it! Make sure you address the back of the paper when you fold it, so we can deliver it to the North Pole for you! Slip it into our special letters to Santa mailbox at the circulation desk! Open to all ages; young and old!

Decorate a Holiday card for Crouse Community Center residents!– Stop in from Thursday December 1 through Monday December 19 (during open hours) and make a Christmas card(s) for a resident(s) at Crouse Community Center! We will have blank cards, cards ready to color along with markers, crayons and colored pencils! If you know a resident personally, address the card, if not, no worries! Open to all ages! Help celebrate the holiday season with the residents! (We will take all cards made up to Crouse on Tuesday December 20.) We would love to make sure every resident gets a least one card this holiday season!

Essential Oils– Come learn how quality essential oils can be used every day to help you and your family live healthier on Thursday December 1 at 6:00pm.  Presented by Tracy Clark.

Ugly Sweater Design Party!-If you are 7 and up (so adults can participate too!) come join us on Friday December 2 at 5:30pm and create your ugly sweatshirt! All participants MUST bring in their own blank (void of any graphics) sweatshirt. We will provide all the glitz, glam and glue for you to create your own ugly creation! It gets better! We will take a picture of all creations and let our social media viewers vote on the best one! The winner will win a prize!

Morrisville Trading Card Club– Every Monday from 4:00pm-7:00pm! Open to ages 12 and up (so adults too!) Games to be played: Magic the Gathering, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! Early registrations can be done by emailing: morrisvilletradingcardclub@gmail.com. (Registrations not needed though to come!) December dates are: December 5, 12 and 19. They will not be meeting December 26 as we are closed.

Kreative Krafters group– Meets every Tuesday from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the program room! This is open to anyone who wants to work on a craft but never finds the time! (Some sample crafts are: knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, needlepoint, the new popular Diamond Dotz, Quickpoint, quilting, scrapbooking, whittling, origami, weaving and beadwork.) If it’s a craft and you can bring it with you, then pack it up and come on over! (Dates are December 6, 13 and 20. There will be no group on December 27 as we are closed.)

2nd Grade Reading Program– Open to all MECS 2nd graders wanting to complete some of their books for the 2nd grade Book Club! Every month we will be reading on some of the harder topics (poetry, historic people, nonfiction, NY and USA.) On Wednesday December 7 at 6:00pm we will be reading two nonfiction books and doing a fun activity as well! Then after attending, you can mark off those 2 books as read on your reading log! (January’s topic is Historic People!)

Annual Open House– It’s back and will be Friday December 9 from 5:00pm-7:00pm! Come see what theme we chose for our Christmas tree!  Eat some yummy goodies!  Be sure to sign up for your chance to win your own “Elf on the Shelf” book or an adult Christmas coloring book!  Come see Santa!! The kids can play games, watch some Christmas movies, make some crafts and more!  DON’T FORGET to make your final bids on our silent auction! Lots of fun for the ENTIRE family!

Silent Auction ends!– The Auction ends at 7pm on Friday December 9! Make sure you have all your bidding done by then! Winners will be contacted on Saturday December 10 for pickups that day through Saturday December 17 (during open hours). Any items left, will be passed on to the next highest bidder after December 17. Cash only!

Kiddies Korner, Story Time–Join us on Tuesday December 13 at 10:00am! We will be hearing stories about “Christmas!”, doing some fingerplays, songs, a craft and more! Open to toddlers through preschool!

Movie NightPolar Express- On Friday December 16 at 7:00pm please join us for our Family Movie Night Spectacular of the Polar Express at 7pm!  Bring the family in for a holiday tradition!! We will be showing the movie, The Polar Express. We will provide the hot cocoa and cookies, & other magical effects; REMEMBER to wear your PJ’s!! Movies will be shown when the library is closed. Please be sure to use the program room door as the main entrance WILL BE LOCKED! IF YOU ARE EXHIBITING ANY SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND OUR MOVIE NIGHTS! Staff reserve the right to ask you to leave if you are exhibiting symptoms at any time during the movie.

Kids Christmas Gift Making!– Calling all kids ages 7 to 14! Stop in on Saturday December 17 at 10:30am and create 3 gifts for your loved ones- a diamond dot ornament, a felt wreath and a book folded candle! (Parents if you want to leave your kiddos, please check with the Library Manager by Friday December 16.)

December Book Discussion– Comfort and Joy by Kristin Hannah
Copies can be picked up starting December 1, 2022.  Read the book because you want to OR come and meet in person on Wednesday December 21 at 6:00pm and talk about it with your fellow Morrisvillians!

LIBRARY CLOSED– The library will be closed to celebrate the winter holidays from Saturday December 24 through Monday January 2, 2023! We will reopen on Tuesday January 3 at 10:00am!
