December 2019 Events

Now through Friday December 20- Letters to Santa!
It’s Christmastime and Santa wants to hear from you! Stop in to the library and write your letter to Santa with all your Christmas wishes on it! Make sure you address the back of the paper when you fold it, so we can deliver it to the North Pole for you! Slip it into our special letters to Santa mailbox at the circulation desk! Open to all ages; young and old!

Now until Saturday January 18- Giving Tree Fundraiser
Shop for the library this holiday season!  We have several items the library needs! It’s EASY!  Grab a Christmas tag off our giving tree of something you would like to donate to the library.  Buy it, donate it, whatever it says and bring the tag and the item in as soon as you can!  We would like all donations turned in by January 31, 2020.

Tuesday December 3– Kiddies Korner- 10:00am
Bring your preschool children in to enjoy stories, finger plays, songs, a craft and more about “Chugga Choo-Choo Trains!”

Wednesday December 4-  Holiday Book Creations!- 6:30pm
Robin Branch-Staelens will be back and she will be teaching us how to make holiday items from recycled books! Maybe a candle, a wreath or a tree, we shall see! All are welcome!

Friday December 6– Christmas Cards & Gifts- 6:30pm
Come make 3 Christmas cards and/or gifts too!  Cost is $5 per set of 3 activities (payable the night of the program).  Jackie Groves of Librarystampers Creations will demonstrate how to use stamps and other tools to create these unique items!  This is open to ages 12 and up (but if someone younger wants to participate; a parent/guardian must come too!)  We must have 5 people signed up to have this event, so please sign up starting November 12, 2019 at the circulation desk!

Tuesday December 10– Kiddies Korner- 10:00am
Bring your preschool children in and hear some stories and more about Gingerbread Men!

Tuesday December 10– Holiday Fun for Homeschoolers!- 1:30pm
Come join us as we have fun with the holidays! If you are a homeschooler and plan to attend, please email the library manager at mrounds@midyork.org with the country and holiday you want to present on then create a presentation, a craft project to do that day or a food of that country and bring in today! We shall share our countries and then make a fun treat and a fun craft!

Friday December 13– Annual Open House- 5:00-8:00pm
Come see what theme we chose for our Christmas tree!  Eat some yummy goodies!  Be sure to sign up for your chance to win your own “Elf on the Shelf” book or an adult Christmas coloring book!  Come see Santa!! The kids can play games, watch some Christmas movies, make some crafts and more! DON’T FORGET to make your final bids on our silent auction! Lots of fun for the ENTIRE family!

Friday December 13– Silent Auction ends!- 8:00pm

Saturday December 14 Nerf Battle Night- 4:30pm-7:00pm
Bring your own Nerf equipment (darts too–please label them) and join us for open play around the library!  See if the library stacks provide you enough shelter from getting hit by a friend’s foam dart!  Open to ages 7 and up; so adults are welcome too!  Everyone must bring a snack and beverages will be provided.  We only have 14 spaces so sign up starting December 1!

Bring the little ones to hear stories about Christmas!

Wednesday December 18– Book Talk- Redbird Christmas– 6:30pm
Looking for a good book to read?  How about joining our book talk as we will be reading, Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg. Copies can be picked up on November 20 or after!  Discussion open to teens and adults!  So grab a book, read it and come join us for a sure to be fun discussion!

Friday December 20– Family Movie Night- 7:00pm
We provide the popcorn; bring your own beverage!  We will be showing the movie, Overcomer (rated PG).

Wednesday December 25- Wednesday January 1, 2020– LIBRARY CLOSED to celebrate the winter holidays!  We will reopen on Thursday January 2 at 10am!
